On Thursday, September 27, THE S WORD traveled to Victorville, CA for a screening hosted by St. Joseph’s Health, St. Mary and student organizations from Valley Victor College where the event was held. The afternoon began with a resource fair, followed by a welcome from Dr. Gloria Peak, Director of St. Joseph’s/St. Mary. The post-screening panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Clayton Chau, MD, Regional Executive Medical Director for the organization. He opened the session with a full minute of silence for those struggling and those we have lost to suicide, which was very moving. Lisa was joined on the panel by Dr.Ā Kathleen Dunning and U.S. Army Chaplain Dr. James Key, both of whom work extensively with attempt survivors; April Dillow who lost a family member to suicide; and Evonne Tirado, student advocate and suicide attempt survivor. Following a very robust panel discussion, VVC students led everyone on an “Out of the Darkness” walk around campus.
